Dr Boris Baer

Dr Boris Baer is the Director of the Centre for Integrative Bee Research (CIBER) located at the University of Western Australia (UWA). The CIBER institute was formed in 2008 to bring together scientists from UWA, as well as the local honeybee industry such as, the Better Bees in WA program, to create a large scale honeybee research organisation, which is the first of its kind in Australia. The aim of CIBER is to intensify field based research into honeybee reproduction, immunity, ecology and to better understand these processes on the molecular level in order to avoid any future potential losses of Australian honeybees. CIBER currently consists of 30 researchers on all academic levels and combines decades of expertise in beekeeping, socio-biology and insights into the functioning of bee societies. Dr Baer is also part of the RIRDC Honeybee Advisory Committee.
